Medical Aid Donations and Services

In working with pets needing to find homes you often come to their care through various unpredictable and some very misfortunate circumstances. In many cases the pet has suffered great trauma both physically and mentally. Many times - if not most - some level of basic health care is needed to bring these pets back to a physical and emotional state that would allow and promote their re-homing.

When an animal needs to be medically treated this is often an expensive and time- consuming process. Because of the expenses involved with medical treatment rescues, shelters, pounds and other such facilities are often forced to make a choice as to whether or not to bring such an animal into their care.

Because of the choice involved many pets are either turned down to be cared for or in some cases they are brought in only to be euthanized due to the cost involved in their care.

Funding is finite but need seems to be endless.

Medical costs can be the biggest line item expense in one's budget. For a rescue, shelter, or other such organization to have the greatest level of success it should look toward a medical care provider that is sympathetic to their cause and that will donate medical care services and/or provide discounts.

Finding a good medical care provider to assist in such activities will mean the difference between life and death for many animals in need. The more efficient such services are the more services rescues and shelters can provide as they are able to more affectively spread their budget across more animals in need.

At the American PitBull Registry we maintain a list of over 44,000 veterinarians. Not all those listed will be willing to provide such assistance. Some however will and using our Veterinarian Locator is a good place to begin the search for such help.

In addition to seeking medical aid assistance it is incumbent for a rescue or shelter to familiarize themselves as much as possible with basic health care. A donor wants to feel like the services they provide are beneficial but at the same time they do not want to feel like such services are being taken for granted.

When receiving medical aid donations it is important to relay to the provider your willingness to provide them with an Medical Aid Donation Accounting Statement. We have provide both an HTML and a PDF version of this below. If a rescue or shelter is a non-profit using the provided Accounting Statement will help them build a better rapport with their provider(s), will help the providers keep better records of their donated services and assist such providers with a receipt for tax write-off purposes.
